National Clinical Audit and CPD Partnership Model

Supporting nationally consistent, locally delivered quality improvement activities

NINCo is working with Primary Health Networks (PHNs) and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) to establish a nationally consistent approach for approving clinical audit activities, quality improvement training programs, and future educational webinars.

The proposed model aims to streamline the approval process by enabling clinical audit activities and training content to be developed and reviewed once at a national level, while continuing to support local delivery and engagement through PHNs.

NINCo

  • Develops and maintains nationally consistent, evidence-informed clinical audit and training materials.
  • Leads the design and ongoing improvement of activity content and learning outcomes.
  • Provides approved activity packages and supporting documentation to all PHNs.

RACGP

  • Reviews and approves activity content and learning outcomes to ensure alignment with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) standards and requirements.
  • Provides a consistent quality assurance process for nationally developed activities.
  •

Primary Health Networks (PHNs)

  • Continue to act as the CPD provider-of-record under their existing RACGP provider status.
  • Deliver activities locally, manage registration and attendance, and support GP CPD claims.
  • Retain direct relationships with general practice while using nationally consistent content.

General Practitioners

  • Participate in activities through their local PHN and continue to access local support and CPD administration.
Process aims to:
  • Reduce duplication and administrative burden across the PHN network.
  • Avoid multiple and potentially inconsistent activity submissions and approvals.
  • Ensure high-quality, nationally consistent clinical audit and training materials.
  • Preserve NINCo’s visibility and recognition as the national initiative lead and content developer.
  • Maintain local PHN relationships and existing provider arrangements.
  • Support scalable national delivery of future quality improvement education and training.
Opportunities for Collaboration with RACGP

The proposed partnership creates opportunities to:

  • Review and endorse national clinical audit documentation and resources.
  • Align training programs and webinars with CPD standards.
  • Explore activity-level endorsement pathways without requiring Major Provider status.
  • Increase visibility and uptake through co-branding or recognition arrangements.
  • Improve accessibility and consistency of GP-facing educational resources.
  • Consider future partnership opportunities, including shared resourcing and funding models.
