A structured organizational framework is essential for NINCo to provide clarity, efficiency, and accountability in its efforts to improve healthcare quality. The leadership and governance of NINCo stems from the leadership of the members who founded NINCo in 2018. The initiative works with the leadership and governance of a steering committee who are responsible for providing strategic direction, decision-making and governance for NINCo. The Committee will guide the NINCo group to achieve the objectives and promote collaboration, and coordination while facilitating monitoring and evaluation for continuous improvement.
The NINCQI project aims to develop a national quality improvement approach and evidence base, enhance PHN workforce capacity, and implement support for PHNs to deliver the MyMedicare Quality Improvement Initiative.
Changes in Australian primary healthcare rules and expectations have led to a growing trend in the desire for quality improvement in primary care, emphasising the increased significance of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).
This is driven by national healthcare policies, the need for standardisation and consistency, a focus on efficiency and effectiveness, the pursuit of equity, and the desire to enhance patient outcomes and experiences.
CQI is considered to be complex, time-consuming, and burdensome to administer. Hence primary care providers become disengaged from the initiative, which results in lower patient outcomes and care quality.
